The Spackenkill Union Free School District was presented with the Cenergistic Award for Energy Stewardship last month to recognize the districtwide effort to implement an innovative organizational behavior-based energy conservation and management program.
During the past 17 months, Spackenkill conserved energy equal to 618 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions or the equivalent of removing 111 cars from the road, according to a news release.
Spackenkill’s energy education manager Chris Hamel received intensive training and guidance from Cenergistic to implement energy conservation procedures throughout the school system facilities.
His work included energy audits and educating staff and students.
